About the Happiness Campaign


The goal of the happiness program is to help you learn and strengthen yourself to become a happier individual. Based on 10 character traits, middot, and 10 keys to happiness, each month will have various avenues for you to explore and grow in each trait. Through texts, yoga vinyasas, guided meditations, and other experiences you will learn to reframe life. Each week within the month will grow the theme in order to bring breadth and depth to your experience. In addition, each point of entry is no more than 5 minutes so you can do them and hopefully they will have longer term ramifications.


Who is this for:

This program is designed for anyone in the Westchester community. We are also implementing differentiated learning as everyone needs different things. Therefore, pick the teachings and experiences that you feel are for you. The most important piece is to ritualize what you do, pick one time a week to dedicate your 5 minutes and you will make sure it becomes a habit. The more conscious and modest you are at the outset, the more success you will see.



The first key to personal growth and happiness is having a community of practitioners. This will give you an opportunity to receive feedback, talk through challenges and successes, and open you up to new ideas. The community will be initially formed on the Facebook group, HOW Happy R U? But our hope is that it can translate into personal study partners with a Hillel Staff member or a community member.

Hitlamdut – Openness to Learning- Whatever happens in your life think “what can I learn from this and how does this relate to my life?”- This practice helps prevent us from being overly judgemental or critical of ourselves.

Trying out- Learning exposes us to new ideas and helps us stay curious and engaged. It also gives us a sense of accomplishment and helps boost our self-confidence and resilience.


Anavah – Humility

Relating- The more people we have strong relationships with the happier we will be.


Equanimity- Knowing how to balance ourselves

Awareness- Learning to be more mindful and aware can do wonders for our well-being in all areas of life - like our walk to work, the way we eat or our relationships. It helps us get in tune with our feelings and stops us dwelling on the past or worrying about the future - so we get more out of the day-to-day.


Savlanut and Ka’as – Patience

Bitachon – Trust in God

Resilience- how do we bounce back?

Direction in life


Behira Points – Experiences that you experience choice in your actions

Exercise- a healthy body is a happy body


Hesed – Generosity



Kavod – Respect



Hakarat Hatov- Gratitude

Emotions- Using positive emotions to define life. Seeing the glass half full rather than the glass half empty.


Emunah – Trustworthiness

Giving- Helping others is not only good for them and a good thing to do, it also makes us happier and healthier too.


The weekly offerings are as follows:

Monday- Textual teaching and framing for the week

Tuesday- TRY OUT: Yoga or Meditation practice

Wednesday- DO: Weekly action

Thursday- Reflection question from the week

Friday- MEME for the week- Now for something completely different
